In today’s episode we do a walk-around of
a car that is rocking horse-poop rare. G’day everyone, this is Daniel O’Grady.
Thank you so much for joining me for another WasabiCars quest… Wasabicars video.
I’ve got a question straight up the top. Do you only watch Mazda videos?
Please let me know in the comments below. Because I show so many different cars, I just
wonder if people are only watching the cars that they want to see.
I don’t know. Tell me.
Okay, today’s car, absolute unicorn. Yes, I’m sure there are many where you live.
Or, there used to be many. But, I swear in all of my car spotting adventures, all of
my car-show visiting, and I’ve seen a thousand cars. I’m sure I have. I’ve seen one of these
ever. That’s it. Just one Mazda Luce Hardtop Coupe.
Before I talk about this car at all, check out the rear window.
There is a sticker I’d like to show you. Ultra Heaven; and I have a sticker myself.
They are a car club out of Northern Kyushu. When I think of cars in this club, I’m thinking
they’re highly modified street cars. A term I think might be appropriate is Zokusha.
But I think a term used in other coutries i.e. outside of Japan, perhaps people would
say Bosozoku. I just want to say that’s probably not an
accurate term for what’s it’s worth. So, with this car being in that club I wonder
if in the future this car might receive a couple of upgrades.
Personally, I think it’s at a great spot right now.
It’s got a few mods i.e. it’s got wide steel wheels on it.
Those are 13-inch steel rims. Looking great. Stretched tires. It’s looking low.
But, you know, the body is so nice. It’s so great to see it hasn’t been tweaked too much.
The styling of these early 1970’s Mazda Luce’s are fantastic.
I’ve seen two sedans. I saw this one here. That one was in the Sepia
collection. And then I saw a blue one as well. As cool as they are, the two-door hardtop
is fantastic. Check out the rear of this two-door hardtop
here. The detail work out the back here is just
spectacular. Look at those tail-lights there.
Brakes up the top. Indicators down the bottom. There’s a metal band.
Nice, fine detail work. And that panel looks to be ribbed, sort of faux cushioned, which
would be ridiculous of course. A couple of badges; 5 speed and RE12. Loving
that. And it’s not too bad up front either. The
grille! The grille on this thing is just amazing.
It’s sort of concave/convex, quad lights looking great.
The bumper and how it’s integrated into the front of the car looks fantastic.
It goes up and down like a roller coaster, and in and out like the hokey pokey.
(Insane giggling sounds) Yeah, absolutely winning.
And that rear quarter, such a great looking design.
I wish I could see more of these. So, I would like to show the engine but I
don’t have any footage. I didn’t know who to ask because I don’t know
who the owner is. Sure, I’ve got that Ultra Heaven sticker,
but I’m not close buddies with everyone. I do have some footage of a sedan engine.
It should be the same engine. Now, that was at the Sepia Collection, and
I’ve done a bunch of videos there. So, if you’re into obscure Japanese cars, go check
out my website. Go to the Sepia Collection. Yeah, it’s quite dark in there. A bit disappointing.
The interior also I got no footage there. One thing that does stick in my mind though,
is the steering wheel of this car. I do know it’s a bit quirky and perhaps I’ve
got a few scans from some magazine if I’m lucky.
So, my parting message of this car will be that it is an absolute unicorn. I swear it
is. I really hope I see more of them.
But, hey. There are no guarantees. Question of the day.
What are you loving? What are you loving?
So, I’m loving watching test cricket. The five day version.
I’m loving it. Slow. It’s slow and I love it.
Anyway, so tell me what you’re loving in the comments below.
I’m out of here, people. Thank you so much.
