Good morning everyone. My name is (full name),
but you can just call me Mint. I study at Anuban Loei School and am in the 2nd grade.
And today, I would like to talk to you all about something very important, something
that has the power to change your lives. At school, at home, out in town, wherever
I go, I see the same thing… again and again. I see other students, my friends, and sometimes
even family members… doing the same thing… again and again. They look like zombies. They’re
always on their smart phones or tablets playing some online game or Facebook for hours and
hours. I believe they have all been Z-O-M-B-I-F-I-E-D!!! OK… Please, be honest. Raise your hand if
you love to play online games like Cookie Run, Candy Crush, Minion Rush, etc (repeat
in Thai)? Who plays online games at least two times a week (Thai)? Who plays at least
five times a week (Thai)? Who plays more than five times a week (Thai)? Wow… that’s
a lot. See, what it is, is that I’m worried. I
feel like all the smart phones and tablets have caused so many people to stop talking
face to face with one another. More importantly, people have stopped enjoying healthy hobbies.
THAT’S IT!!! HEALTY HOBBIES. Look. I too, like to play online games in
my free time, but I make myself turn off my tablet so I can do other things I enjoy, like
watching YouTube videos. I love learning… and through YouTube, I can learn for FREE.
I typically like to watch videos about English and Thai, but after studying for a while,
I tend to take a break by watching a few funny cartoons. Other things I enjoy doing are reading
books. You might think of me as weird, but I like to read my school text books. I know
I’m a nerd…whatever! Well, Thai and English are my favorites, but I also like reading
about social studies and physical education. However, I don’t like to read about science,
it gives me a headache. Really, these are just some of the many things
I like to do. So if-you-are a zombie, I think you should try and put down your smart phone
or tablet and find a healthy hobby. Raise your hand if you like: watching TV, going
to the movies, fishing, gardening, sports, listening to music, playing music, travelling,
dancing, … just to name a few. So… the next time you have a bit of free
time, turn off your phone, put away your tablet, and go enjoy a healthy hobby. Thank you all very much for your time and
have a great day. Sawadee Ka.
