We are talking about recruiting a celebrity.
And what motivates a celebrity to say yes beyond money. And you know one of those things
may be simply a personal interest in a hobby, a sports skill, in fact I know celebrities
that will play golf at the drop of a hat. They don’t care who the sponsor is, who the
charity is, they just love golf. And that could be something that motivates a celebrity
to say yes. Just a simple interest of theirs. I’ll give you a great story example. I don’t
know how many of your recognize this guy. His name is Joe Regabuto and he’s a golfer.
He was on the show Murphy Brown with Candace Berman and the Renaissance Pleasure Fair wanted
to get him to come to the fair and take some photos to, so they can put some press out
there and say, hey look who’s come to the fair. But he turned it down, he really wasn’t
interested. Well I asked them if they had a country club near by, and whether or not
they could get a day of golf for him at the country club if he agreed to come and take
these press photos. They said sure no problem. So I called his wife and I said listen, I’ll
tell you what, we’ve got a fabulous day for you and the kids and Joe at the fair, all
Joe has to do is he just takes twenty minutes to take some photos at the fair and then he
can go, they’ve already arranged for him to play golf at a country club and you and the
kids can enjoy the fair, the whole day. Well you know what, he said yes. So golf had nothing
to do with that particular request, but by knowing that that was an interest of his,
I got him to say yes just by dangling that little interest carrot. So keep that in mind
and this is where the creative part comes in with designing the request for a celebrity.
If you are trying to attract a celebrity and motivate them to say yes, sometimes just research
what they like to do. It’s all there is.
